Press Release Body: Expanding Russian airline, KD avia, has announced an increase in the frequency of its flights between London Gatwick and Kaliningrad from Summer 2008.
Using single class, modern Boeing 737-300 aircraft, KD avia services will depart daily from Gatwick at schedules around 17:15 arriving in Kaliningrad at 2135 local times. The flight time is 2hours 20 minutes and a full meal service is served during the flight. Easy onward connections are then available to 12 cities in Russia and Astana in Kazakhstan.
Loreta Durrell, UK Sales Manager said:\" This is great news for both business and leisure travellers to Russia. Traffic has grown to all our 12 destinations since our launch in June last year and with a daily service we expect sales to be boosted by the growing number of businessmen accessing the Russian market who need flexibility in their travel arrangements. We are also seeing a growth in tourism to the fascinating city of Kaliningrad, historically called Konigsberg, and we are escorting our first familiarisation trip for Tour Operators there later this month. Already, as well as a number of Russian specialists, major operators such as Exodus, Audley Travel, and Regent Holidays have signed up for the trip and are looking to feature Kaliningrad as a new destination in their future programmes.\"
KD avia\'s specially designed hub in Kaliningrad connects 12 cities in Russia with 15 cities in Europe. Departure points include: London Gatwick, Berlin, Hanover, Barcelona, Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Munich, Prague, Rome, Kiev, Odessa, Sofia, Vienna, Paris and Milan. Cities served in Russia include: Moscow, St.-Petersburg, Chelyabinsk, Ufa, Nizhny Novgorod, Omsk, Rostov, Samara, Perm, Kazan and Volgograd plus Astana in Kazakhstan and Tel Aviv in Israel.
KD avia are predicting traffic will grow to between 1.5 and 2 million passengers per year. The $60 million project at Kaliningrad includes the construction of a new terminal at Khrabrovo airport capable of handling up to 8 million passengers, the first phase of which was completed in 2007. KD Avia currently operates a single type fleet of 16 Boeing 737-300 aircraft, but is currently evaluating the 737-700/800 variants as well as the Airbus A319 and A320 as longer-range replacements for its 737-300s.
